Prof. Hesham Elghazaly, is a clinical oncology professor with an experience over 30 years, affiliated with different titles mainly as Executive Director of the Medical Research Center (MASRI) at Ain Shams University, and chairs the Scientific committee at the Presidential Initiative of Women’s Health (PIWH) in Egypt, Also serves as a member in the general assembly of Breast International Group (BIG) and Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). A member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO) and the scientific committee and Advanced breast cancer (ABC) Global Alliance.

1. Global Leaderships and contributions:
• Vice President of the International Breast Cancer Network in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA NCCN).
• International Health Governance: Appointed as an expert member of the Scientific Board of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO) following Egypt’s accession as a participating state in 2024.
• Advanced Breast Cancer Advocacy: Elected to the ABC Global Alliance Board of Directors (2025–2026), representing middle- and low-middle-income countries to improve global treatment access.
• IARC Scientific Council Member: Prof. Elghazaly has been elected as IARC Scientific committee member in May 2024 after Egypt joined the IARC.

2. National Impact in Egypt
• Presidential Initiative Success: As Chairman of the Egyptian Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health, he led efforts that reduced the breast cancer diagnosis period from 120 days to 49 days and contributed to a 20% reduction in breast cancer incidence rates with increased accessibility to screening diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
• President of the Egyptian Cancer Society (ECS): Elected President in December 2024, spearheading strategic partnerships with global organizations like the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
• MASRI Research Center Innovation: MASRI (faculty of medicine Ain Shams Research Institute) another milestone in his career started
since 2018, aiming to establish and maintain an innovative hub for research and knowledge transfer through the latest technology, dedicated well trained team and international collaboration.

3. Scientific and Policy Contributions
• Cairo Call to Action: Orchestrated the Cairo Call to Action for Advancing Equity and Innovation in Women’s Cancer Care in 2025, a landmark WHO-supported regional initiative to bridge health gaps in the EMRO region.
• International Conference Leadership: Founded and chairs the Breast–Gynecological International Cancer Conference (BGICC), the largest specialized cancer event in Africa and the Middle East, hosting over 4,000 global participants annually. (www.bgicc.net)
• Clinical Practice Guidelines: Contributed to the development of ESMO and NCCN–MENA clinical practice guidelines, ensuring that international treatment standards are adapted for regional specificities.
