Paul Hofman

Professor of Pathology, Nice Sophia Antipolis University (France)


Paul Hofman, MD, PhD is professor of pathology at the University Côte d’Azur (Nice Pasteur Hospital France) since 1998. He did his residency in oncology and pathology in Nice University and in Paris University and his PhD in Montpellier University. He was assistant professor in Nice University from 1992 to 1996. He went to Harvard Medical School (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston) for a fellowship and then to the Max Planck Institut (Tubingen, Germany). He is the Head of the Laboratory of Clinical and Experimental Pathology and of the team 4 at the Inserm 1081 /CNRS Research Unit (IRCAN) at the Antoine Lacassagne Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is the director of the FHU OncoAge (www.oncoage.fr) in Nice University and of the MSc Biobanks and Complex Data Management (https://univcotedazur.eu/msc/biobanks-complex-data-management), as well as of the Nice University Biobank (www.biobank-cotedazur.fr).

He is member of the pathology working group at the IASLC since 2021, co-chair of the Molecular Pathology working Group at the IASLC since 2023, and chair of the pulmonary pathology working group of the European Society of Pathology since 2022. He is member of the Royal Academic of Medicine in Belgium. He focused his interest in lung cancer pathophysiology and in different diagnosis and predictive biomarkers, both in tissue and in liquid biopsies. He is recently the Director of the IHU RespirERA in Nice, France.
