Dr. Reis holds a degree in Biology (Porto University) and has been involved in Cancer Research since 1996 as a young researcher fellowship at IPATIMUP (Porto) under the supervision of Prof. Manuel Sobrinho-Simões on thyroid cancer. In 1997, he was awarded the prestigious GABBA Ph.D. fellowship (University of Porto), initiating his doctoral studies at IARC/Lyon, France, from 1998 to 2001, focusing on brain tumors under the supervision of Prof. Paul Kleihues. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Reis pursued postdoctoral research in gastric cancer at VUMC/Amsterdam and IPATIMUP with the supervision of Profs. Gerrit Meijer and Fátima Carneiro. In 2003, appointed Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor in 2021 the Medical Faculty, Minho University, Braga, Portugal, and Group Leader of Oncobiology. In 2010, at Barretos Cancer Hospital/Brazil, I coordinated the Molecular Oncology Research Center and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory; in, 2015 appointed Scientific Director, and from 2018 to 2021 appointed Executive Director of the Research and Teaching Institute. In 2021, I was appointed Extraordinary Professor at the Pan African Cancer Research Institute, University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Expertise is in cancer biomarkers across distinct tumour types. Experience in international collaborations: COST and Marie Curie Conferences Actions; SIOP, Brain Tumour Committee; IMMENSE consortium; NCI-LACRN; ICGC, WIN, and Mutograph (CRUK Grand Challenge).
Published 429 articles in international journals, with a H factor (Scopus) 70, with more than 30,400 citations. Dr. Reis supervised 38 Master’s Degrees Students, 21 PhD Students, and 10 Postdocs. Since 2023, Dr. Reis has been cited in the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Influence Scientist list.
